Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of the Museum and keep us connected with the surrounding community. If you have an interest in American and/or Masonic history and want to share your enthusiasm, we courage you to apply for one of the volunteer opportunities in the listings below.

Education, Public Programs and Visitor Services

  • Teaching Assistants-volunteers will work hand-in-hand with education staff on a specific school program during the busy fall and spring months to provide assistance with group tours. Must be available weekdays.
  • Arts and Crafts Specialists-the Education and Public Programs Department is looking for a creative and talented individual to assist with the development of the Museum's popular arts and crafts family programs. Must be able to work with children. Weekday availability preferred.
  • Front Desk Volunteers-front desk volunteers are the first point of contact for the Museum's visitors and are an integral part of the overall museum experience. We are looking for personable individuals to greet visitors, answer questions about the Museum and its exhibitions as well as the general history of the Lexington-Concord area. Volunteers will assist staff with duties including, but not limited to, answering phones, selling tickets and other administrative tasks. Shifts are 12 Noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Library and Archives

The Van Gorden-Williams Library & Archives holds one of the world's most comprehensive collections on the subject of Freemasonry, as well as other fraternal organizations whose development paralleled or was influenced by Masonry. There are currently volunteer opportunities available which include, but aren't limited to, shelving and organizing archival materials, data entry, cataloguing and assisting staff with visitor inquiries. Projects vary and there is potential for more involved research projects. Weekend and weekday shifts are possible.

Collections Department

A volunteer position with Collections Department gives individuals an opportunity to work hands-on with museum professionals and gain insight into the workings of a museum. Available opportunities include research projects, entry level collections management, and other administrative tasks essential to the smooth running of the Collections Department. Must be self-motivated, have attention to detail and good computer skills. Shifts are available Monday-Friday with flexible times.
